Malcolm East

Former Oil Field Equipment Mechanic Supervisor at Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, former coalminer and long time resident of Dewsbury.

Malcolm East is currently producing a maritime series of paintings to help raise funds for the RNLI.

His earlier work included memories of his home town of Dewsbury and of his life down the pits as a coal miner.

Born in 1940, by the age of 7 he had arrived in Boothroyd Lane in Dewsbury where he continues to live to this day

His work follows his career starting with 'When I Was A Lad' looking back at his life growing up as a boy and in Dewsbury of the 50's and 60's. 

'TwentyFour Hours Down The Mine' was a series of drawings from the coal face at Thornhill Colliery, Dewsbury.  

This was his first exhibition and was bought by Kirklees Council in 1966.

'Changing the Face of British Rail' illustrating his life working for British Insulated Calendar Cables on contract to British Rail to convert mechanical signaling to electrification after leaving the mines in 1965. 



Malcolm's more recent work has taken on a nautical flavour.
