Brimelow’s Herbalist Is Back In Style!

Chris Hartley, owner of Brimelow's Herbalists, was pleased as punch this week when his new shop sign was fitted.

Chris has been dispensing herbal remedies, health food and supplements for 44 years. Thirty of them from this same Brimelow's location in Dewsbury town centre.

A Traditional Herbalist Business

You might call Chris something of a traditionalist. So it was an easy call that he chose to replace his faded old Brimelow's shop sign with the 'same again, please' to maintain his distinctive presence right opposite Dewsbury market hall.

Although a 4th generation herbalist, Chris doesn't claim to go back all the 131 years to the founding of Brimelows in Dewsbury in 1887.  But he did buy the business 30 years ago from another 4th generation herbalist of the family who founded the business.

Free Advice

Free advice is his speciality at Brimelow's, so if you're looking for alternatives for any ailment then feel free to pop in and draw on his decades of experience.

Being a Yorkshireman, he wasn't going to let anything go to waste so you will notice that he's had the old sign put up on the side of the building to catch your attention if you're passing up Crackenedge Lane.  Waste not, want not!

The new sign is a modern, large format print created in a single pass onto a sheet of aluminium composite material.   The old style lettering of the original Brimelow's sign was difficult for most suppliers to create and a traditional sign writer turned out to be phenomenally expensive to do it by hand.

Local Support

Chris was put in touch with local Dewsbury firm, Dennison Digital by Dewsbury Chamber of Trade.  Dennison Digital were able to recreate the original sign using modern software and the new Brimelow's sign was printed in a single pass by their modern equipment.

A great example of local businesses working together for mutual benefit and thanks to Chris Hartley at Brimelow's for helping maintain the tremendous heritage that exists in Dewsbury.
