Old Public Library

Comments & suggestions

The old Library building is Grade II Listed.  It is now In private ownership and after several failed business ventures it lies empty, neglected and deteriorating

It's a classic Victorian building which presumably became 'inefficient' for the council to operate thereby justifying the construction of the new Library and the sale of this building.

The listing of old buildings is intended to ensure that they are preserved - even when in private ownership.  The risk is supposed to pass to the new owner.

But if the council does not enforce the listing then the risk actually passes to the community as they watch part of the town's heritage crumble day by day.

What we think:

If we can see it then it should be worth looking at!
