Cycling Nocturne

maps of the Dewsbury ring road

The ring road - albatross or asset?

The ring road around the town centre is commonly recognised as having caused some major problems for the town.

However, maybe it could become an asset as the venue for a cycling event?

As a dual carriageway throughout its length, the inner carriageway could be used for the cycling while the outer carriageway could keep the traffic moving, albeit with some restrictions.

Attach the Dewsbury Nocturne as a side event as part of the Tour de Yorkshire and much of the marketing could be done by the Tour de Yorkshire - bringing in a ready market of cycling enthusiasts as well as providing a fun event for families in the town.

Too late now for 2018 - but lots of time to plan for May 2019?

Possible Routes

1. Start/finish in front of the Town Hall, crowd, entertainment, catering etc in Market Place then circumnavigate the ring road - 2km - as many times as required.

2.  Around the inner streets without touching the ring road. Also approx 2km.

Family Fun Events

Either at the same time or before or after, use the inner roads of the town centre.

Making it Happen!

This is another idea for an event to bring people to Dewsbury, to provide fun activities for residents and visitors and to support regeneration and optimism in the town.

We need a group of local cycling enthusiasts to make it happen.  Is that you?

Or maybe you've got some better ideas?

If so then drop us a line from the Contact page and let's get cracking!
