The winner is ..Dewsbury town, as Surf n Slurp, the latest venture to open in the town was inaugurated by Mayor Paul Kane who drew the winning tickets for the opening prize draw on Saturday.
Created by Paul Coates of DC Flooring and Dale Hooley of Pixelle Print in the Kingsway Arcade off Northgate in Dewsbury, Surf n Slurp started off as the unused top floor of their retail premises.
Now, after weeks of hard graft and much paint and elbow grease being expended by the two business owners they are making the space available as a community and internet cafe which is available not only as a cafe but also for use by community groups and other organisations in the town.
To add a finishing touch, local illustrator John Chamberlain began work on a large mural for the end wall to give the venue some added class. John is a Dewsbury resident and a self employed illustrator who has studied at both Leeds and Edinburgh Colleges of Art.
So impressed by the efforts of the two local businesses was one Dewsbury lover that despite no longer living in the town they donated the first prize for the raffle of a weekend including all meals at their lakeside Italian Villa Palazzola just outside Rome.
Useful for Community Groups
With a large, unobstructed floor area of more than 40 square metres, Surf n Slurp is ideal for groups who need to work together on some occasions while perhaps breaking into smaller groups at other times.
